Senior VP, Regional Credit Officer, U.S. Bank Corp.

As Charlie Robert Dean Jr. soared through the corridors of power in finance, punctuated with a spectacular upward trajectory toward the pinnacle of the banking industry, he never took his eyes off his metaphorical rearview mirror. There, successive generations of African Americans strive and struggle to manifest their own aspirations. Dean, a longtime National Urban League member, intimated that he wants to show others the road he traveled to success.

“I’ve always embraced the works and philosophy of what the Urban League has done for many young people in their lives, and the encouragement and educational opportunities that they’ve brought to many lives,” says Dean, the senior vice president and regional credit officer at U.S. Bank Corp., the nation’s sixth-largest bank.

A former Charlotte Urban League member, who transferred to Dallas four months ago after his appointment to U.S. Bank, Dean is also proud to claim the programs U.S. Bank is undertaking to provide a multiplicity of opportunities for diverse consumer sects. “Based on my ideals and based on my views of what’s going on, we’ve committed over a billion dollars over a certain number of years to low-income housing,” he said during the National Urban League convention in St. Louis. “We’re also involved in providing funding for [worthy] programs in various cities and have a lot of other community-based efforts [ongoing].” The road to success is getting wider and wider every day, thanks to people like Dean. –terry shropshire
