EVP and Managing Partner, Matlock Advertising & Public Relations
Matlock Advertising & Public Relations has assisted corporate
heavyweights fashion and protect brand images since 1986. Edward
Rutland, executive vice president and managing partner, oversees
Matlock’s New York office. His task is to develop creative strategies
that match consumer expectations for a clientele that includes BMW,
Bellsouth and Chase Bank.
Rutland is a fixture at events like Chase’s Legacy of Homeownership
tour, and promotes wealth through real estate acquisition for African
Americans.
The Morehouse graduate regularly addresses the importance of African
Americans creating their own inheritance at public business forums.
“When you look at people’s wealth, most of their wealth starts in the
home,” he says. “So, if you’re renting or you don’t have property that
you own, you don’t have a nucleus for creating wealth.”
The ‘keeping up with the Joneses’ syndrome leads many to believe that
wealth is equated with credit card limits and luxury cars. But, Rutland
advises that those who will achieve financial success are those people
who see the bigger picture. “When you look at millions of dollars in
real estate, that’s what we need to have a piece of,” he says. “That’s
the overall emphasis that makes it important for us as a people and for
Chase as a conduit to help you get there … they have the resources
and the knowledge to show how you can get a piece of that pie.” – gavin philip godfrey
