State Representative, 26th District
Why are you seeking re-election?

I care about the city of Chicago and its constituents in my district.
I’ve always been a community-minded person. I care for those around me.
… I have a lot to offer to make changes and make our society livable
for everyone.

What social program have you been instrumental in creating?

The Drug School Act. It allows for a drug school to be established to
provide alternatives [to] prosecuting nonviolent offenders. It gives a
chance for rehabilitation to keep families of drug-addicted individuals
together and make our communities stronger. Currently, the state spends
approximately $22,600 to incarcerate one individual. Under the Drug
School Act, the state will save approximately $17,000 per person by
offering this treatment instead of jail time.

What are the immediate issues that you would address?

In
my district, there’s a high rate of unemployment. It’s due to a lack of
education. I would like to see evening school [return]. Those who work
during the day and have children can attend evening classes. That would
be through the public school system. This is something that took place
years ago. It was a good program. I would like to work with the state
in providing funds that [could be used toward] hiring babysitters and
childcare facilities that would enable these parents to attend evening
schools to further their education. – adam jones
