Academy Award winner Irwin Winkler (Best Picture, Rocky,
1977) has dropped the first major motion picture on the subject of the
war in Iraq. One might wonder if he should have dropped this project
rather than take it on. Samuel L. Jackson, Jessica Biel and Curtis “50
Cent” Jackson star as three soldiers who are sent on a humanitarian
mission to bring medical supplies to an Iraqi village. The three suffer
physical and psychological injuries and bring their trauma back home
with them after returning from their tour of duty. If all of this
sounds eerily similar to the 1978 classic film The Deer Hunter, that’s to this film’s detriment. If that reference doesn’t ring a bell, skip this anyway.
