U.S. House of Representatives, 11th District of Ohio
For
the past 27 years, Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones has proudly
served the city of Cleveland as a trusted public official. Tubbs
represents Ohio’s 11th District in the U.S. House of Representatives,
where she is the chair of the Ethics Committee. The veteran
congresswoman also serves on the powerful Ways and Means Committee,
which oversees all revenue-raising bills, taxes, and social entitlement
programs, such as Medicare and Social Security.
A former prosecutor, Jones believes that having a Democrat in the White House is the right thing for all Americans.
“I’m so excited about the possibility that a Democrat will be
elected to the presidency of the U.S. We have control of the House, we
have close to control of the Senate, and if we had the president, we
wouldn’t have to worry about veto threats. We’d guarantee to be out of
Iraq sooner than later, and we’d have an opportunity to focus dollars
in on America and our infrastructure for jobs, education and health
care for our folks,” says Jones.
With the African American vote more relevant than ever
before, Jones wants people to realize the importance of their vote and
how the whole country can benefit. “The black vote is always relevant.
The dilemma we face is not understanding the relationship between our
people and the power that we have. As a result of the work that African
Americans have done in this country, we have the opportunity to make a
difference right here in Washington and across the nation,” says Jones.
