Comedian

The last time we saw Pierre, the “Def Comedy Jam” and “Comicview” mainstay was ready to take the silver screen by storm. With roles in the urban comedies B.A.P.S. and The Wash, it seemed obvious that the Washington D.C., native was ready for stardom, but Hollywood can be a funny place. After writing, directing and producing his own 2002 fi lm, For Da Love of Money, Pierre left the allure of fl ashing lights behind.

“One thing I learned is that you can’t change Hollywood, but you can change the way you react to it,” says Pierre.

With his lessons learned and a new attitude towards the game, Pierre is back and says he’s hungrier than ever. Currently living in L.A., Pierre is developing a new late-night comedy show, which he is shopping to major networks. “It’s an avenue for black stars who don’t get a chance to be on late-night shows like ‘Letterman’ and ‘Conan O’Brien,’ ” he says. “There are so many talented people and we need an outlet.”

Pierre hopes his work will encourage unity and he stresses the importance of all celebrities — black or white, taking responsibility for their actions regardless of the circumstance. “I have no sympathy for the next artist who goes racial the wrong way or buys guns and gets arrested — you see how it happens so be responsible for yourself, playa,” he says. “Once you move into a new tax bracket, [life] changes, [so] you’ve got to change.” –gavin philip godfrey
