Tomas Doncker is an artist who wears his proverbial heart on his sleeve. His songs are as joyous as they are thoughtful, as honest as they are sentimental. Doncker’s influences are obvious, but not overbearing. The album opener, the rolling “Faith and Trust” with it’s handclaps and breezy organ, recalls late ‘60s soul music. “Learn to Cry” is blessed with elegant sax lines and Doncker’s introspective lyricism, his cover of Yusef Islam’s (Cat Stevens) “Peace Train” is as resonate as the original. All in all, Doncker injects each recording with sincerity and depth. A wonderful listen. –dusty culpepper
