Owner, Honey Child Salon & Spa
What woman doesn’t like being treated like a queen? The ladies who frequent downtown Chicago’s Honey Child Salon & Spa are certainly accustomed to the royal treatment that owner Bambi Montgomery gives her clients. The full-service salon and spa is designed to exceed clients’ expectations with the pampering services it offers: massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing services and, of course, expert hair styling.
“I think it’s the personal attention to our clients [that sets Honey Child apart]. [The salon] is very warm and inviting. It’s really beautiful. We have chocolate brown hardwood floors. There are yellow drapes. It’s really a welcoming and chic, elegant place that people want to be a part of,” says Montgomery.
As is true for many entrepreneurs, Honey Child was born from Montgomery’s desire to create a better work environment. “I just made a decision one day after being a hairdresser [and] working for a variety of places, that I wanted to do this on my own. [I knew that] if I wanted to work in the environment I desired, I would have to create it myself because it wasn’t out there; a diverse place where people could go and get services in one place. So I opened seven years ago with my best friend and it has just been growing since then,” explains Montgomery.
The Honey Child concept has gone international with a salon in Los Cabos, Mexico called Hive. A second location is on the drawing board for Chicago. Montgomery is also gearing up to launch a product line soon, a development her loyal customers are anxiously awaiting. – jason thompson
