The Essence of Motown hosted the fourth annual Essence of Motown Literary Jam Nov. 9-11, 2007, at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.

Authors and readers alike turned out to participate in this celebration of the written word. The event was sponsored by rolling out, Motown Writers Network, Courtyard Marriott, the International Detroit Black Expo and other local businesses. Special guests included Zane, Tina Brooks McKinney, Frank Turner, Luther “Bad Man” Keith, Pam Perry and Vincent Alexandria.

“The Essence of Motown Literary Jam brings together readers, writers, authors and poets in an effort to strengthen [Detroit’s literary community], celebrate the written word, and shine a light upon literacy in Michigan,” stated organizer and creator Sylvia Hubbard. “Every year, I do this out of the love for reading and writing and I hope to share the knowledge of writing, publishing and marketing [with] all, so we can all be a success.” – janaya black
