When it comes to puzzle games, there is no better gaming platform than the Nintendo DS. The sheer number of puzzle games available for the DS is mind-boggling. Picross DS and Prism are perfect examples of what a puzzle game should be; easy to learn, quick game play and highly addictive. With Picross DS, players solve puzzles to reveal hidden pictures. To get an idea of how the game plays, think Minesweeper meets Sudoku. You’re given numerical clues to fill in the rows and columns of a grid. By using your best deductive reasoning, you can figure out which cells need to be filled. Once solved, the hidden picture is revealed. There are some cool multiplayer modes. But the coolest feature is the ability to download more puzzles online for truly unlimited play. Prism takes a slightly different, but admittedly unique style of game play. With Prism players have to slide and move mirrors, light refracting cubes and prisms to guide colored beams of light to the correct locations. The catch here is no objects can be rotated, only moved around. The initial levels are really easy, making this a fun game for kids. You have to go fairly deep into the game before things really get challenging. Prism has 120 levels of light-filled fun to keep you busy. Unlike Picross DS, you can’t download new levels, but there are two modes of play, Infinite and Hyper that offer random challenges that can keep you occupied for hours. So whether you have a couple of minutes or an hour or two, Picross DS and Prism are a fun way to spend your time. –dark abyss
