rainbow PUSH 2008 wall street project women’s luncheon
Spotlighting prominent women’s achievements and groundbreaking inroads toward ‘holistic’ health and the prosperity of today’s woman, the Wall Street Project’s Women’s Luncheon was an enlightening and empowering session. While acknowledging that “there’s a lot more stepping up that [we can] do, sister,” keynote speaker Julianne Malveaux, president of Bennett College for Women, praised achievements and emphasized the importance of black women’s colleges, and rallied for economic growth.
“Our economic conversation must be a conversation about prosperity and access to capital,” said Malveaux. Paraphrasing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Dr. Malveaux reminded the audience that “We have to come to the nation’s capital to cash a check–and that check says insufficient funds.” With diligent minds like Dr. Malveaux’s, perhaps that debt will be resolved. –todd williams
