R&B’s best-kept-secret, Raheem DeVaughn, returns with his latest effort, The Love Behind the Melody.
DeVaughn calls himself the “R&B Hippie Neo-Soul Rock Star,” and
while that moniker isn’t necessarily musically obvious, his
under-appreciated brand of ambitious ‘grown folks’ R&B is on full
display. “Woman,” is already one of 2008’s best singles, and “Marathon”
is a clear standout. DeVaughn spends most of his time praising his
significant other, which may wear thin for listeners, but it’s also
sure to garner the self-effacing singer his own bit of kudos. –dusty culpepper
