Spike Lee, Chris Rock, Nia Long Support

Hollywood sundancePark City, Utah – One could easily describe the scene at the Sundance Film Festival as an exquisite melding of films, celebrities, filmmakers and parties — all framed by a breathtaking backdrop of snow-capped mountains. But it is so much more than that; it is 10 days of screenings, receptions and filmmaker panels that provide honest feedback and opinions. It is a place where the audience and filmmakers have open discussions. And perhaps most importantly, it is a place where celebrities can casually walk among the masses, getting an actual pulse of the people.

Sundance started in 1985 as a small film festival, and has grown over the years into a prestigious event. If a film makes it to Sundance, it stands a better chance of getting noticed, which ultimately leads to film distribution thanks to the buzz generated by the festival. Additional movie talk is generated by the stars that come out to both support their films, as well as network with colleagues.

This year, Chris Rock, Nia Long, Spike Lee and Erika Alexander were just a few of the stars who attended Sundance to support film projects. There were also first-time directors and actors who were just happy to be a part of the mix. Of the projects that premiered: Thriller in Manila, Nollywood Babylon, Johnny Mad Dog, Prom Night in Mississippi, Passing Strange and Good Hair all are must-see films.

Only time will tell which of the award-winning films announced at the festival’s conclusion will become the great films of tomorrow. –asheba edgehill
