In honor of their impressive 100 years of achievement, the NAACP held the 40th Annual Image Awards yesterday at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. From Halle Berry’s stunning wardrobe changes, to moving performances by Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce, the ceremony was a poignant reminder of all that we have accomplished as a community over the past year. 1909On February 12th the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was founded by a multiracial group of activists, who answered “The Call,” in New York, New York. They initially called themselves the National Negro Committee.
1948The NAACP was able to pressure President Harry Truman to sign an Executive Order banning discrimination by the Federal government.
