The Music Industry Sounds Off On the Inauguration

Shawty Lo, rapper

How I’ll Feel When Obama is Sworn In:

“Proud.  I feel confident in his abilities to lead this country and regardless of how people feel about him, you can’t take away the fact that this man is making history.”

What Song Best Represents This Moment:

Sam Cooke, “A Change is Gonna Come”

Why: “Because I think Obama represents change not only with his skin color but with his policies and a new America.  I also like James Brown “Say It Loud, I’m Black and I’m Proud”— that speaks for itself.”

What I Have in Common with the President:

“We’re both bosses, we’re both underdogs, we know how to move a crowd when we step up to the m-i-c, we’re both extremely confident and we love strong black women.  We also have been criticized but we always rise above it.”
