An Open Letter to the Citizens of Detroit A Season for All Things

An Open Letter to the Citizens of Detroit A Season for All ThingsTo the great citizens of the City of Detroit, the worst is over. With the resignation of the troubled young man who until this morning held the office of Mayor of one of the most important city’s in the nation’s history, you can commence the healing process and start your moral and economic recovery. The dilemma you all faced was unconscionable and incredibly unfair to every resident down to every single man, woman and child.

Detroiters must take solace in the fact that you persevered and exercised restraint when so blatantly affronted by despicable behavior and unfathomable deceit. Forgive the political pundits who shirked their responsibilities, and hesitated to step up to the plate and do the thing that needed to be done.

In Detroit’s indomitable spirit and fighting fashion you made it through, as you have so many times in the past — through riots, and economic downturns, auto industry troubles, strikes, layoffs and recessions — you are an amazing people.

Don’ fret either about the leadership for the immediate future. Whether it’s Cockrel, Bing or Adams, all are sensitive to the pain you’ve just endured and wouldn’t dare to do anything less than that which is honorable and productive.

Heal yourselves, and know that throughout the nation we are pulling for your complete recovery. Your fellow American’s are sensitive to your needs and will support Detroit’s rebuilding efforts in any way we can.

Historically, residents of Detroit have overcome daunting odds and remain some of the most resilient people in the country. We owe you our gratitude for all of the industrial and cultural contributions you’ve shared with the rest of us.

I thank you for building not only cars, but strong and determined citizens who stand ready to fight the good fight and move us forward to a better future. –roz ewdard
