DALLAS— Ludacris may be on a press tour for his latest flick, the action-packed, video-game based, Max Payne (starring Mark Wahlberg and hits theaters on Oct. 17) but he’s still promoting his upcoming album, properly titled, Theater of the Mind.
Due out on Nov. 25, this is Luda’s seventh album, and he believes that it’s his best yet. As his latest mixtape with DJ Drama, The Preview, demonstrated, he’s still hungry as ever, and this go-around he’s looking to silence naysayers.
“I think to a certain degree I feel underrated,” he admits. “But it’s funny because over the past year, people are starting to catch on. This album I think will seal the deal because [there are] a lot of undeniable lyrics. Every song is a movie.”
Luda says that Theater of the Mind will showcase his storytelling abilities as well as provide an intimate glimpse into where he is mentally.
“I’m just spitting on how much I appreciate music, hip-hop and lyrics and how I feel like the last of a dying breed,” he says. “There [are] not too many lyricists out there, so the album is very diverse.”
As for the retirement rumors, he waves them off with a laugh.
“The cut off age will be somewhere around 40 and I’m nowhere near that,” he says. “I’m not even trying to retire. I love music and I still have more music to put out.”
In other Luda news, he’ll also star in the upcoming Guy Ritchie film, Rock and Roller, which will be released on Oct. 31. –j.h.
