We gathered a few of the most memorable quotes of the U.S. VP debate and provided our thoughts on the words of Gov. Sarah Palin and Sen. Joe Biden –amir shaw
The GoodSarah Palin“We need to make sure that we demand from the federal government strict oversight of those entities in charge of our investments and our savings and we need also to not get ourselves in debt. Let’s do what our parents told us before we probably even got that first credit card. Don’t live outside of our means. We need to make sure that as individuals we’re taking personal responsibility through all of this. It’s not the American people’s fault that the economy is hurting like it is, but we have an opportunity to learn a heck of a lot of good lessons through this and say never again will we be taken advantage of.”
Comments: With the hopes of making up for her past verbal blunders, Palin gets off to a good start by attempting to connect to middle class Americans.
Joe Biden“We don’t call a redistribution in my neighborhood Scranton, Claymont, Wilmington, the places I grew up, to give the —fair to say that not giving Exxon Mobil another $4 billion tax cut this year, as John calls for—and giving it to middle class people to be able to pay to get their kids to college, we don’t call that redistribution. We call that fairness, number one. Number two fact, 95 percent of the small businesses in America, their owners make less than $250,000 a year. They would not get one single solitary penny increase in taxes, those small businesses.”
Comments: Biden reiterates the principles of helping the middle class and slams McCain’s ideals of providing tax cuts for industrial powers.
The BadSarah Palin“Your plan is a white flag of surrender in Iraq and that is not what our troops need to hear today, that’s for sure. And it’s not what our nation needs to be able to count on. You guys opposed the surge. The surge worked. Barack Obama still can’t admit the surge works.”
Comments: Palin does a poor job of attempting to make sense out of war that has proven to be meaningless.
Joe Biden“No. Barack Obama nor I support redefining from a civil side what constitutes marriage. We do not support that. That is basically the decision to be able to be able to be left to faiths and people who practice their faiths the determination what you call it.”
Comments: Obama and Biden do not support gay marriages, but Biden forgot to mention that they support civil unions. The UglySarah Palin “Well, first, McClellan did not say definitively the surge principles would not work in Afghanistan. Certainly, accounting for different conditions in that different country and conditions are certainly different. We have NATO allies helping us for one and even the geographic differences are huge but the counterinsurgency principles could work in Afghanistan. McClellan didn’t say anything opposite of that. The counterinsurgency strategy going into Afghanistan, clearing, holding, rebuilding, the civil society and the infrastructure can work in Afghanistan. And those leaders who are over there, who have also been advising George Bush on this have not said anything different but that”
Comments: Palin’s mispronunciation of General McKiernan’s name conjured thoughts of her lack of knowledge and readiness to become VP of the United States.
Joe Biden “Vice President Cheney has been the most dangerous vice president we’ve had probably in American history. The idea he doesn’t realize that Article I of the Constitution defines the role of the vice president of the United States, that’s the Executive Branch. He works in the Executive Branch. He should understand that. Everyone should understand that.”
Comments: Article II of the U.S. Constitution defines the role of VP of the United States.
