WASHINGTON – Whirling winds carried uncertainty and excitement around the Washington Convention Center during the 38th Congressional Black Caucus Legislative Conference. The CBC convenes as the most historic presidential campaign of all time comes to a crescendo, which gives the proceedings extra importance. The nation’s capitol, coincidentally, was the site of the economic summit featuring Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain, who flew in at the behest of Pres. Bush to find a resolution to the most dangerous economic quagmire since the Great Depression. Many CBC conventioneers stopped by a bank of television as reports of the economic progress and the status of the presidential debates developed. Even as members of Congress met, Washington Mutual was acquired by Chase Bank, amplifying the aura of trepidation and consternation surrounding the nation and particularly Wall Street.
