NEW YORK-Music’s biggest stars came out Tuesday night to celebrate the release of crooner Robin Thicke’s latest album, Something Else. Music moguls Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs made surprise appearances at the fabulous fête, sponsored by Target and held at Manhattan’s posh Rainbow Room. Upon their arrivals, both Jay and Diddy were quickly ushered to the room’s VIP section, where they joined other industry notables such as Lupe Fiasco, Jadakiss and Kenny Burns. Thicke’s wife, actress Paula Patton of Déjà Vu fame, was also on hand to help her hubby celebrate. Although she walked the red carpet with her husband, Patton passed on interviews, saying, “Tonight is all about Robin. It’s his night.” The celebration was the third album release party that Target hosted in New York City. Recently, it played host to album release parties for both Mary J. Blige and Chris Brown. Greg Cunningham, Target’s director of Multicultural Marketing, said celebrating the music of such artists was an important focus for the Target brand. “It’s about giving our consumers more of the music they want by the artists they want,” he said. Once inside, revelers danced the night away to R&B classics spun by DJ Cassidy. Thicke briefly took center stage, thanking friends and fans for their support before launching into an impromptu performance of his hit single, “Magic,” at the urging of his wife. “Paula thinks I should sing this for you,” he said, before giving the Mrs. what she asked for. -ivory m. jones
