Christine Collins’ (Angelina Jolie) son Walter is abducted while she’s at work. After searching for months, Christine starts giving up on ever finding her only child. One day, a 9-year-old boy shows up and claims to be her lost son. In an act of compassion, she allows the young boy to come home, but is not satisfied that he’s really her birth child. When she challenges the Los Angeles police and claims that they’re corrupt, essentially stepping out of a woman’s place (circa 1920s), they retaliate and vilify her by labeling her unfit. The only person who’s willing to offer her any help is a benevolent soul, Rev. Briegleb, played by John Malkovich. Directed by Clint Eastwood, Changeling is based on true events. –malibu jones
