PHILADELPHIA —
The Liacouras Center on Temple University’s campus could scarcely
contain the creative brilliance the scores of sculptors and painters
showcased during the 23rd Annual Philadelphia International Art Expo.
Produced by October Gallery, the largest African American art exhibit
in the nation featured works of profound scope and depth. More than 150
artists, authors and educators displayed works that stretched the
parameters of human possibilities and bedazzled the more than 40,000
visitors from around the nation.
The
three-day extravaganza also featured Gangsta rapper-turned-TV star Ice
T and wife Coco, BernNadette Stanis and Ralph Carter of the legendary
“Good Times” sitcom, Darrin DeWitt Henson of
Showtime’s “Soul Food,” Rev. Clifton Davis of
“Amen,” and Ella Joyce of “My Wife and Kids”
and Stranger Inside. James Denmark, an internationally-acclaimed
artist, was the feature dignitary.
“We
connect people with art. We deliver magic and romance to the art
experience because purchasing art should be an adventure, a satisfying
and enjoyable process,” says Evelyn G. Mercer, who produces the
art extravaganza with her husband Redcross Mercer. “The climate
and environment of the expo is so exhibitor friendly and professionally
developed, that the exhibitors form an emotional tie to the vision of
the Philadelphia International Art Expo and contribute to its
success,” he told ncanewyork.com– terry shropshire
