Unk exploded in 2006 with the infectious “Walk It Out,” but on his sophomore release, Second Season, he struggles to muster any of that hit’s enthusiasm. “On My S***” wants to be an anthem, but it’s hook just doesn’t stick and guests don’t add much to “Like Wham.” But on “Show Out,” Unk comes close to sounding like he’s actually enjoying himself; and the Ying-Yang Twins-assisted “Sweep Da FLo” is nonsensical enough to be a dance-floor banger. Unk never claimed to be a great rapper, and his forte is crafting danceable gibberish, but this set is standard snap-by-numbers; and not even the crunkest of fans would be compelled to give it more than one or two spins. – dusty culpepper
