If
there is one unifying theme on I Am … Sasha Fierce, it’s
the musical variety. The first disc features a slightly more subdued
pop-rock approach in the guitar-driven ballad “If I Were A
Boy,” and the Pat Benatar-esque ballad “Broken-Hearted
Girl.” The second disc features some of the most overtly hip-hop
and club/dance-oriented material of her career, as on the
Eurodance-meets-ATL crunk of “Radio,” and “Single
Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” is definitely an anthem. This is an
impressive set that shows Beyoncé isn’t afraid to break
out of her comfort zone. –dusty culpepper
