Brain Training for Dummies Publisher: Electronic Arts Genre: Puzzle Platform: PC If you have a Nintendo DS, you’ve probably played something similar to Brain Training for Dummies. If you’re a fan of puzzle solving, these games are definitely for you. This particular game is one of several that represents EA’s move into the so-called casual game market. Brain Training for Dummies is easy to learn, even if you’ve never played this type of game before. Once you create your profile, the game proceeds to tell you how smart (or dumb) you are. The only drawback is that it appears you have to have the original game disc in the CD drive while you play. It’s been a while since I’ve experienced this type of copy protection. That said, Brain Training for Dummies is really loads of fun. |
Sony Playstation 3
Power and Elegance in HD The PS3 is more than just a gaming system. While you can wirelessly surf the Internet, view photos and listen to MP3s, what makes PS3 the crowning champion of gaming consoles is its Blu-ray capabilities. The PS3 is a full-featured Blu-ray player. Updates to the Blu-ray format are automatically downloaded to the PS3, many low-cost, stand alone Blu-ray players don’t even have this capability. But wait there’s more. Even if you don’t buy a Blu-ray disc, the PS3 upscales your regular DVD collection to near HD quality, so movie night takes on a whole new meaning. And online gamers take note: Sony’s Playstation Network is free. No other gaming console can even come close to the features and abilities of the PS3. So for this holiday season, if you’re looking for the best value for your gaming and family entertainment dollars, the PS3 is the clear choice. –dark abyss |
Tak: Mojo MistakeAretha Franklin Publisher: Play THQ Tak: Mojo Mistake is based on the Nickelodeon cartoon character, a 14-year-old hero-apprentice who never seems to get his magic right. This is Tak’s second DS adventure. While fans of the first game will want to check out Tak: Mojo Mistake, once they start playing, they will be surprised to see that Tak has gone from a 3-D game to a 2-D side scroller. Fortunately, the story line is a familiar one; the Pupununu Village is under attack and Tak, the Keeper of the Jujus, must come to the rescue. It’s a fairly safe bet that if you enjoyed Tak’s previous adventure, Tak: Mojo Mistake will be worth your time. –dark abyss |
