ATLANTA
— Soul singer, Bobby V. has a thing for the elderly. The singer
slowed his schedule down today and made a pit stop at the Harriett G.
Darnell Senior Multi-Purpose Center to donate fresh vegetables and
turkeys for the holiday season. The Bobby V Foundation and the
Atlanta Urban Gardening Program (AUGP) teamed up to sponsor the event,
which drew a crowd of excited elderly members of the community.
“I
just really think it’s good to give back because when you get
older you want people to give back to you,” Bobby V, who spent
his summers as an intern with the AUGP teaching seniors and youth how
to grow fresh vegetables, says. “That’s why I do this event
every year.”
Gospel singer, Dottie
Peoples, was also on hand to celebrate with the community, and handed
out Bibles after giving a rousing impromptu performance.
“It’s
important that you give back to the community and give back to people
who have paved the way and set the way for you,” says Bobby V.
“A lot of artists don’t really give back. I’m really
giving back to the senior citizens because that’s where we come
from and you can really learn so much from the senior citizens.”
