There
are moments when we need to begin to understand that there is a place
for all of us to seek purpose and understanding. We have to focus on
seeking peace. When we take the time to be still and silent, we can
recognize who we are and what our purpose is. The universe
doesn’t have a pause button, it is constantly in motion,
constantly evolving, changing, stretching and metamorphosing. There is
a lesson in that for us all.
We are a culture
that gorges on being acquisitive, but what we seek to acquire always
seems to involve material gain. Not that that’s inherently bad in
and of itself. But so much focus on temporal things, while allowing our
most precious assets — mind, body and soul — to slide into
rack and ruin, is foolish. So we have to create a new dream, new goals
and a new methodology for achieving those goals.
Turn off the
television and cell phone and crack open a book. Take an exercise
class. Stop eating for two. Stop spending every single penny of your
paycheck. Lose the negative friends. Meditate. Make an appointment for
an annual physical. Visit a local school and offer your services as a
tutor. Mentor a young person who is heading down the path of
self-destruction. Pray. Visit a nursing home. Learn to love and respect
yourself.
Oftentimes,
ironically enough, while we are laboring to improve sombody
else’s life or circumstance, we find our own path to
redemption.
We do have the power — and the duty
— to create miracles in our own lives. But we can’t wait
for somebody else to do it. As Mahatma Gandhi said, “Be the
change you want to see in the world.”
Peace.
