Chicago–
The main suspect in the tragic murders of Oscar-winning actress
Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew, William Balfour,
will have to continue to sit behind bars- for now. The Illinois
Prisoner Review Board found enough reason to keep Balfour, 27, locked
up for the time being.
The board found that
Balfour, a convicted felon, never attended his required anger
management class. On top of that, the board found reason to believe
that Balfour had been frequenting known drug areas around the city. The
primary concern during the review was a report from Balfour’s
girlfriend, who told authorities she’d seen him carrying a gun
that looked like the .45-caliber handgun believed to be the murder
weapon used to take the lives of Hudson’s mother, Darnell
Donerson, older brother Jason Hudson and 7-year-old nephew Julian King.
It’s
also been reported that authorities have questioned a 19-year-old
college student in Mississippi who said she spoke to Balfour over the
phone at about 4 a.m. on October 24. The student who has been
indentified as Rashia Whitlock said that Balfour claimed he and his
associates were “getting ready for something real big
that’s going to go down tomorrow.”
As
of now, Balfour has not been charged in connection with the killings
but has remained in custody for the past two weeks. Balfour was
transferred to the Illinois Department of Corrections for violating his
parole, stemming from 1999 felony conviction for attempted murder.
Jennifer Hudson has stated that she will be putting her career on hold to be with her family and mourn. –gavin philip godfrey
