War is hell. If you don’t believe it, just pick up a copy of newest edition to the Call of Duty franchiseWorld at War. If you’re already a fan of COD, you won’t be disappointed. If you’re just jumping onboard, you’re about to experience one of the most honest and brutal representations of war in a video game. The COD franchise has always been about realism, butWorld at War seems to take it to another level. The battles in World at War capture all the chaotic, pervasive horror of war, like no other game. The inclusion of interesting weapons like flamethrowers and tanks are a few of the best highlights. Flamethrowers are incredibly fun to use, but it’s the tanks that really takes “World of War” over the top.
With more than a generous nod to movies like Saving Private Ryan, tanks inWorld at War are a force to be reckoned with — the sound and visuals are amazingly realistic. In case you’re wondering, yes, you get to set stuff on fire and flex your armored muscle in online play. Speaking of online play, the maps are massive, with plenty of places to hide and ambush anyone foolish enough to come your way. Graphically, World at War is superb. Use the flamethrower on the enemy and you’ll see their charred remains on the ground. Weapons can literally blow the enemy into gory little pieces. In general, the game does an incredible job of depicting the sights, sounds and horrors of war. If playing video wargames is your thing, COD: World at War is the best choice for your hard-earned dollars. –dark abyss
