Managing Partner, Hotel St. Regis
To every generation a person with extraordinary vision is born, with
the courage to grab hold of a dream and ride it all the way to the end
of the rainbow. For the city of Detroit, Herbert J. Strather, managing
partner of Detroit’s Hotel St. Regis, is such a person.
“I was raised on the west side of Detroit and I believed that one
day I would come back and rescue my community,” Strather
proclaims. “And, you wanna know the good news? I’m
back.”
As the chief visionary for the project that was launched to purchase
and renovate the historic Hotel St. Regis, Strather acknowledges that
it was no easy task.
“It takes a miracle,” he admits. “You have to love
the Lord, [and] He has to bless you. You have to have people that
believe in you. We put up five million in cash and that’s a lot
of money.”
After almost two years of intense planning, projecting and lots of
prayer, the dream of resurrecting one of Detroit’s most historic
gems became a reality.
“I’m extremely excited,” Strather says of the
project. “It’s a dream come true. We’ve been in
ownership [for] about a year and a half [and] we’re having a
wonderful time. We have great artists that come in here, we’re
the signature hotel, [and] we get the highest ratings. We’re a
boutique hotel and people can come here and [receive] privacy, personal
treatment and transition into tranquility.” –janaya black
