Jovan Dais is a proponent of the popular rap-R&B genre, meaning that he tends to vocalize over hip-hop beats in a very commercial manner. One aspect of this album that’s cool is Dais’ sampling taste: “Go” lifts the energetic music from Common’s song of the same name with nerve, while “So Special” utilizes a large part of Curtis Mayfield’s pithy soul tune, “The Makings of You.” Otherwise, if remarkable repetitiveness and crime-story clichés are your thing, this is for you. –dusty culpepper
