In a remake of the 1951 sci-fi classic, The Day The Earth Stood Still hits theaters with a bang. Starring Keanu Reeves, with a helpful assist from adorable child star Jaden Smith, this film captures the essence of the original while capably finding its own unique voice. There are no real complaints from this writer about any of the cast members; but once again, Academy Award-winning actress Kathy Bates steals the show. In addition, while the special effects are certainly impressive, it’s the heart of the film along with the complexity of its characters that ultimately make this film enjoyable. –dewayne rogers
