Much
has changed in the life of actor-comedian Bill Bellamy since he brought
the term “booty call” into mainstream English vernacular
from his “Def Comedy Jam” skit more than a decade ago. From
there making audiences roll over into the isles from his side-splitting
on-stage antics and becoming a mainstay hosting various MTV shows to
ironing out the details of an as-yet-untitled upcoming sitcom, Bill
Bellamy knows how to stay hot in Hollywood. And he shares a three of
his secrets with rolling out. – carlton wade
- Build your brand. People
in Hollywood are looking for somebody that they can sell. That’s
why you see rappers in movies who have never acted in their life.
Hollywood producers feel that they warrant ticket sales. Somebody wants
to see Beyoncé. She sold 30 million albums. Throw her in the
movie (and) T.I. too. Let Lil Wayne be the officer.
- Keep expanding and keep trying.
Get more and more people to know you and be familiar. Katt Williams is
a perfect example. Cats thought his real name was “Money
Mike.” But when he did that comedy special, he solidified that
“I’m Katt Williams” and people dig it. He was doing
standup a long time before that moment came.
- Be relevant.
Be up on how people are feeling, what people are going through. You
can’t be doing jokes on what happened in 1988 and 1994.
What’s the mood in the country right now? You gotta be in the
trenches to know. You gotta keep one foot in the hood at all times. You
can’t lose your ghetto pass. You gotta know what your aunties and
uncles are going through. That’s where you get your swagger
because people can relate to you.
