The
stars shined brilliantly in North Atlanta last night as entertainers,
politicians and entrepreneurs gathered to raise money during the 5th
Annual Frank Ski Celebrity Wine Tasting and Live Auction. The affair
was held at Ski’s pristine estate as a part of efforts to raise
funds for the Frank Ski Kids Foundation.

“There
are a lot of kids who never left their city. You got a lot of kids who
think it’s not cool to be smart and not cool to read
books,” said platinum producer DJ Toomp from the event. “So
we push education first to let the kids know that education is the key
to everything. It’s a great situation. I love it.”

Multi-platinum
producer Jazze Pha agreed. “Giving back to the kids is always a
beautiful cause,” he said. “There’s a greater reason
for the season. It’s all about sharing and spreading the love
around.”

Last summer, that love spread
all the way to South America. Their next planned outings are to send 10
children to NASA Space Camp and 10 more to study the arts in Italy.

“When
I went to the Amazon and to Brazil, it was incredible,” said a
tearful teen in front of a crowd of about 200 attendees. “It was
poverty stricken; and I learned not to take things for granted now that
I’m back at home. I will always remember my trip.”

Of
the items auctioned was a trip for two to Hawaii, framed art and
artifacts depicting President-elect Barack Obama, a baseball signed by
1999 National League MVP Chipper Jones and a chef’s table for six
at Four Seasons restaurant.

“I like to go
off the beaten path to places we’re not supposed to go and be
with people we’re not supposed to be,” said Ski before he
started bidding at $300 for a zebra skin rug. “We’ve been
to some amazing places.” –carlton wade
