Much has changed in the life of actor-comedian Bill Bellamy since he brought the term “booty call” into the mainstream English vernacular from his “Def Comedy Jam” skit more than a decade ago.

“Nobody knew my name when I was on ‘Def Jam,’ ” he recalls. “They’d be like ‘Oh, you the dude that do the Booty Call. What’s your name, man?'”

From hosting “MTV Beach House,” and roles in the blockbusters Love Jones and Any Given Sunday to co-starring in Fox’s high-speed “Fastlane,” remembering his name is no longer a problem for fans of the Newark, N.J.-born opportunist.

“I’m multitalented. That’s the only way to be alive in this, because you can’t be doing the hammer pants now, jack,” he jokes.

Nowadays, he is concurrently hosting popular stand-up comic show competitions TV One’s “Who’s Got Jokes” and NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.” “They’re clean, family shows,” says Bellamy. “Fans dig it [as well as] parents, aunties and grandmas, [and] people on the usher board.”

I see some of the [comics’] attitude, their hunger for what they’re doing. I love it,” he adds. Even more apt to make church folk smile is Bellamy’s newest venture. He is ironing out details for an as-yet-untitled comedy series where he plans to bring a positive black family to TV.

“I want to take that family that we all know and put it on TV. We don’t have that representation right now on TV.” Alluding to Bill Cosby’s on-screen attire, he adds, “Without the old sweaters, though. I’m going to upgrade a bit.”–carlton wade .
