What a wonderful gift life is for those who choose to enjoy it. The gift of life is taken for granted, and then time passes and we forget that it is what we give ourselves that matters. The holidays — Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa are a time for giving. As we engage in a flurry of activities, it’s easy to forget the important things in life.

What gift to the world are you? Do you enhance anyone’s life? Are you an example to the younger generation? Are you self-sacrificing? Do you help people heal? Life’s not always convenient. Sometimes, the most trying circumstances require that we give our time — a precious commodity, to be sure — but to be a gift to someone, a personal sacrifice just might be in order. In order to be a gift, you have to subjugate your wants and needs, despite the inconvenience that others place on you or the interruption that they cause in your life. Don’t grieve over what life was, what life could have been or what life should be. Instead, your life should be about constantly giving gifts to those around you, enhancing their lives, thereby giving yourself the best gift of all — a life well lived.

Are you working toward getting your name recorded in the record book? Will others record your kindness, patience and humanity as your best attributes? A gift of attaining a higher education, a gift of having the ability to overcome doubters, a gift of being articulate; it is those gifts that the world awaits. Yes, you are a gift to this world and the onus is on you to be the best gift you can be. Share the greatness that is inborn in you and life will record what a wonderful gift you were. And the gift that you leave will be the only testament that time allows.

Peace.
