greg davis jr. – welcome to hollywood
the highlife
Actor
Since the tender age of 7, actor Greg Davis Jr. has been focused on bringing his acting dreams to life. Before landing a starring role on hit TBS sitcom “10 Items Or Less,” the Florida-born go-getter left the comforts of Orlando just one week after high school graduation and headed west to the bright lights of Hollywood only to have door after door slammed in his face. With his eyes fully focused on the prize, he was even homeless at one point, but it was his strong faith in God that kept his vision clear.
“It was a tough journey. It’s never over because you always want to go from level to level. It’s been plenty of times that I wanted to quit, but I thank God that He has given me the strength to continue,” says Davis. “I know that my purpose in this industry is far greater than whatever pain I may feel because it’s bigger than me. I’m trying to represent another breed of young black actors to show that we can do positive things, not be the stereotypical role in any movie or TV show.”
Now with three seasons of “10 Items Or Less” under his belt, Davis portrays the ambitious Buchwald “Buck” Washington, who attends school at night to be a doctor. “As a character, I’m the straight-laced guy in an environment full of chaos,” Davis informs. “I’m the one who’s got his head on straight and the most normal person on the show.”
Although Davis is finally reaping the rewards of his hard work and sacrifice, he credits his success on a strong spiritual foundation. “I have faith, belief in God (and) belief in Christ,” he says. “You got to be determined. You can’t let anything deter you. You have to have a good motive and a good reason. You can’t just want to be famous for no reason or just want to ball. Whatever that pure, honest drive is, it’ll keep you going.” –carlton wade
