A model, artist and businesswoman, Kandy Pitts has been able to transfer her love of fine art into a burgeoning entrepreneurial enterprise. The owner of The KTP Creative Group, a marketing and promotions company, works to expose the public to other aspiring artists/models across the country. Pitts says proficiency in business and art is a prerequisite to lasting success.
“You have to know business [and be] a creative person. That will help you develop as a professional and definitely help you sell work,” she says, sharing the advice she gives her clients. “You want your image to be out there and you want to sell.”
Pitts put those wise words to the test with The Kandy Project, an art exhibit she developed in 2006. “Twenty-one photographers photographed one subject — [me],” says Pitts, whose unique artistic venture was covered in the Philadelphia Inquirer. “I liked the fact that I could transform from one look to another with a different photographer,” she adds, discussing what it was like working with so many photographers. “[I had] to become a different person and take on their energy and kind of transfer that in front of the camera.”
Thus far, the diversification has added up to success for Pitts. “I feel very free. And I’ve always been that way — even if The Kandy Project never happened,” she says. “I’m a free woman. Hopefully, I can help other women be free, and be comfortable with themselves — no matter their size, shape, style or color.” – terry shropshire
