Real Housewife of Atlanta, NFL Star give kids $100 each for Christmas Shopping
DeShawn Snow, one of the “Real Housewives of Atlanta,”
and former NFL star Willie Whitehead teamed up in the “Snow White
Christmas” event by giving 30 kids $100 each to go shopping for
Christmas. Former U.S. Ambassador Andrew Young christened the
proceedings. The philanthropic gesture that took place in Union City,
Ga., a suburb of Atlanta, was a combined effort by the Deshawn Snow
Foundation and the Willie Whitehead Foundation in which 30
underprivileged children were fed at the Wing Lab, co-owned by
Whitehead, then each given gift cards from the Walmart adjacent to the
his chicken wing restaurant.
“We’re brightening up their day and brightening up their
holiday season. We know these are hard economic items. We’re
blessed to be a blessing. We’re just excited to make it
happen,” Snows says amidst the cacophony of children chatter.
“It warms my spirit to see the little kids, to see the smiles on
their faces and just to know that I’m making a difference, [that]
I’m making an impact on their lives. Having once been a recipient
to things like these growing up, I know what it feels like.”
Former U.S. Ambassador and Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young was among a
throng of celebrities, parents and children who poured into the compact
Wing Lab to imbibe on delicious wings and fries before drenching the
isles of Walmart. “This is a wonderful experience. And it says
what we all ought to do for Christmas: do something for someone
else,” Young said.
Miss Black Georgia Tashee Reed said it melted her heart to witness the
smiles and the kids’ faces knowing that these events can have a
lifelong impact on the children. “I remember my mother or older
cousins and aunts all taking me out and spending time with me and that
influenced me so, so much. And if it wasn’t for them spending
time with me, I wouldn’t be the person that I am today.”
