Fashion, stars and cars were the official themes for the 13th Annual Urban Wheel Awards, held at the Detroit Opera House during press week of the 2009 North American International Auto Show. The event, billed as the Academy Awards of the auto industry, was hosted by star of stage, film and television, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and actor-filmmaker Tony Plana of ABC’s “Ugly Betty.”
Notable Urban Wheel Awards winners included the Ford Flex, which won Truck of the Year and also won for the African American Diversity Print Ad of the Year for its “Push It Good” campaign. The African American Diversity Broadcast Ad of the Year went to UniWorld Group Inc. for the Lincoln MKS spot, “Mad Crazy Love.” Jocelyn K. Allen, vice president of public affairs and corporate communications for OnStar, won the Executive of the Year award.
The annual awards event is produced by On Wheels Media Inc., a multicultural multimedia company that provides scholarships and mentoring for students pursuing careers in the automotive industry and communications. –roz edward
