Home Depot lends support to Atlanta’s Center for Civil & Human Rights
Home Depot is celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with its first civil rights commemorative gift card. The “Dream” gift card will be sold online at homedepot.com/dream and in the more than 2,200 retail stores nationwide. From Jan. 15 through Feb. 28, consumers who purchase the gift card will help lay the foundation for a permanent home for the historic King Papers, which will be on dispaly at the Center for Civil and Human Rights.
“The building of this historic exhibition is an endeavor that aligns directly with our company’s core values of celebrating diversity, practicing inclusion and serving our local communities,” said Marvin Ellison, executive vice president of the company’s U.S. stores. “Over the past few years, the Home Depot has made a significant investment to help acquire these historic documents. We look forward to building a home for this piece of American history that will live right here in our own backyard.”
The collection features 10,000 original documents by Dr. King, including 7,000 handwritten notes and drafts of his “I Have a Dream” speech, his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” and other theological writings.
