General Manager/Marketing
Adidas of America
Jose
Dickerson understands how to climb the corporate ladder. “I started out
as a stock guy,” he offers. “And I worked all the way up to being a
corporate buyer.” Now that he’s General Manager of Marketing for Adidas
of America, it’s safe to say that all of the diligence and persistence
he’s put forth throughout his career has paid off. “If you don’t set
goals, then you have nothing to strive for, in a sense. They are the
measurement of your success, and [determine] how far you [advance] in
your professional life.”
Dickerson
leads his team with a directed sense of purpose and encourages a
unified vision. He himself learned at the feet of some of the brightest
and most effective mentors he could find. “My first mentor would be my
district manager. He worked with me to really understand the business
day to day — how to recruit and train people, what to look for,”
Dickerson says. “He mentored me as far as working closely with me and
passing on books that he had read throughout the years and he passed
them on to me for development. As I started moving throughout the
country, I started meeting different people and taking them on as a
mentor myself.”
Dickerson extols the value
of communication, being a people person and having a desire to win’ are
the keys to his success. He adds that he enjoys transmitting that
success to his team. “Seeing the people that work under me progress and
go on to do greater things has always been the number one thing for
me,” he explains. “That’s where I get my biggest [gratification] from —
developing people.” – todd williams
