Friday the 13th Uncut
Paramount;
This is the film that inspired numerous sequels and impacted contemporary horror cinema for all-time. The film is presented with uncensored gore and the thematic linking of sex and death. There is of course, the asinine “ki ki ki, ma ma” voice in the score, which sounds like “chi chi chi, ha ha“ and usually signifies a killer’s presence. It’s doubtful if Friday the 13th was even a positive force in pop culture, but unquestionably, it is indelible. –forrest green III
Bustin’ Down the Door
Universal Studios;
There is no two ways about it, “Bustin’ Down the Door” is a surfing lover’s dream. Narrated by Ed Norton, this documentary covers the early (summer of 1975) days of surfing when a group of Australian surfers wanted to shake things up in Hawaii. Watching these guys do their thing in this movie is amazing. Bottom line, if you love surfing, you’ll want to check out “Bustin’ Down the Door.” –dark abyss
The Midnight Meat Train
Lionsgate Films;
In today’s Hollywood, it’s hard for R-rated horror movies to get any love. Everywhere you look, it seems that PG-13 is the new default rating for horror movies. But thankfully, we now have the unrated, director’s cut of the movie for true horror fans to enjoy. The less you know about the movie, the better. Just know that Vinnie Jones (X-Men’s Juggernaut) gives new meaning to the word brutal. –dark abyss
