While with her latest album, India.Arie continues her trend of delivering emotional tales of hard-earned life lessons and love, this time around it seems as though too often the message overshadows the music. Throughout Vol.2, India’s concepts are bright and engaging (“Yellow” featuring Terrell Carter) although lyrically she stumbles a bit—sometimes sinking into corny territory (“Pearls” featuring Dobet Gnahore). While her honesty and passion for life and renewal are certain appreciated given the times, you can’t help but wish the talented crooner would have been more sonically focused with this outing. –rogue marie
