Several years after Dr. Monica Jones Shareef received a dental degree from the Medical College of Georgia, she wanted to find a way to make visits to the dentist more appealing. In 2003, Dr. Shareef decided to revolutionize dentistry by opening Spa Dental in metro Atlanta. Dr. Shareef recently provided three reasons Spa Dental just might change patients’ perception of the dentist. Along with complimentary massages, Spa Dental offers invisible braces, tooth-colored fillings, veneers, gum disease treatment, dentures and partials, and pediatric dental care.

1. Comfort: “I noticed that most people fear going to the dentist. So I decided to combine the [dental] office with a spa. Everyone over 18 years gets a complimentary massage to relax them before their dental treatment. I came up with the idea and it has been very successful thus far.”
2. Technology: The technology makes dentistry a lot better than when we were kids. It’s not as bad as it was 10 years ago. One of the things that is great is how much computer technology has come into the practice. We have a computerized system that maps out the crown and allows you to receive it in the same day. It’s not as painful as people think. People can now fall asleep during a root canal. The pain factor is minimum. We also have laser dentistry. If you have a cavity, we don’t have to give you anesthesia. There are a lot of things that are fascinating.
