For the better part of two years, it’s been almost impossible to ignore The-Dream’s signature sound, from the hits he’s written for pop stars Rihanna (“Umbrella”) and Mariah (“Touch My Body”), to his own smash singles like “Falsetto” and “I Luv Your Girl.” On his sophomore release, Love vs. Money, the artist born Terius Nash plays to his strengths — rhythmic hooks and synth-driven backdrops. The-Dream strikes gold with the excellent “Walking on the Moon” and the slow-burner “Sweat It Out.” It’s a little disappointing that The-Dream didn’t take a few more musical risks, but that’s a small criticism for an album as enjoyable as this. –todd williams
