Founder and President, L.F.C. & Associates

Lisa George understands the importance of creating awareness for groups that lack the marketing or financial means to make it happen. As the founder and president of Lisa From Chicago & Associates (L.F.C.), George’s company helps nonprofits and other community-based organizations grow strong via comedy shows, concerts and award shows.

“There [are] a lot of good causes out there, but how they’re presented determines how well people take in the information,” George says regarding the need for businesses like L.F.C.

George has spent more than 30 years traveling the world as a volunteer for organizations like the American Red Cross and CDC-funded HIV/AIDS projects. After spending time in various hospitals, clinics, laboratories and youth programs, George decided that battling the devastating disease would be her primary call to arms.

Recently, L.F.C. produced Phenomenal Me in Chicago, an event geared toward increasing awareness of and providing support for African American women affected by HIV/AIDS. “I think there is still a lot of work to be done,” she says. “Unfortunately, HIV/AIDS is on the way back up, so with awareness campaigns we have to try and stay ahead.”

For the proud mother, staying ahead starts with educating children on the global issues that are currently affecting local communities. “I think we still need to invest in our children … we need to let them learn from the mistakes we’re making [and] we need to inform them, but [we] also [need to] engage them,” George says. –gavin philip godfrey
