Generations X, Y, and the Millennials are forging ahead seemingly undeterred, as those embarking on their careers are known to do. In Detroit, that phenomenon is in large part fueled by Fusion, a group of brash young professionals who face down business trends, and commit instead to breathe new life into an historic but faltering business market.
“Its spirited and energetic director, Christianne Sims, who is leading the charge to retain and recruit young professionals in the Detroit metropolitan region, heads the fledgling organization’s roster of more than 550 paid members. Sims makes it clear that the organization — a Detroit Chamber of Commerce economic development initiative — is not limited to newly graduated and upwardly mobile urbanites.
“”Fusion was the best name that fit because we don’t want to put qualifiers around ourselves and exclude anyone who is not young or professional. We bring new people together and we look to attract the young, as well as the young at heart in our efforts to revitalize the region,” she says adamantly.
” In less than a two-year span, the organization has racked up an impressive list of accomplishments. Having attended the state’s legislative annual retreat to Mackinac Island, Fusion capitalized on the networking and relationship building opportunity and garnered recognition from some of Michigan’s most noted leaders as an organization on the forefront of political and social renaissance.
“We want our peers to know that this is a premier location to cultivate business opportunities and put down roots for establishing careers as well as families,” says Sims. –roz edward
