Since 2005, 92.3 Mix radio personality Ramona Prater has taken her place at the microphone, after being offered a job as sidekick to Judge Greg Mathis and renowned comic Rickey Smiley. When the Mathis show was shelved, she ended up landing a gig with “The Steve Harvey Morning Show” as the television and radio star’s witty local news director.
“I respect the power of the microphone like no other thing I’ve ever done in my life,” Prater confides. “When you open the mic, you have to say something that speaks to people and gives them something to take way with them to improve their lives. Every word counts,” she adds.
The accomplished radio icon has also expanded her broadcasting presence and sphere of influence to include a weekend gospel show, “ALL Gospel Sundays” in addition to a hard-hitting talk-show with local news personality, Charles Pugh, called “That’s What’s Up.”
“We’re a community affairs program, and we keep the show real. It is unscripted and unedited … and sometimes raw. We address topics across the board — from parenting to safe sex to downtown shopping to political issues and the myriad of solutions. I believe that if you can change a person’s mind you can change that person’s world view,” says Prater, who hopes to inspire change through personal responsibility. “As women, we are multifaceted. … If you can run a home successfully, you can run a corporation.” –roz edward
