Jason Kidd Seeks his First NBA Championship and Looks Back on his Illustrious Career

Jason Kidd has yet to score an NBA title and most likely only has a few more years to do so. At the age of 36, Kidd wants to make another championship run before retiring from the NBA. During his14-year career, the star point guard of the Dallas Mavericks has racked up over 10,000 assists and ranks just behind Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson with his record of 101 triple-doubles. Rolling out sports recently caught up with Kidd who discussed his career achievements and a personal priority — saving the lives of children across the nation. –kim smith and a.r.

Why did you dedicate your foundation to fund various children’s medical research programs?
The big thing is to save someone’s life, but also just to make people aware. As much as people think of us as entertainers and celebrities, we are also human. I’ll help anyone if they want to fight to stay alive.

Hitting the 10,000th mark for career assists proves that you are a team player. How was that moment for you?
It’s a great honor to be able to pass the ball to some guys who are able to finish. I’ve been blessed to pass up the score and hopefully I can keep it going.

Some of your career accomplishments rank with those of NBA legends. What is the key to creating a legendary career?
Well, I think one is just trying to be consistent. That’s the hardest thing in this league is to be consistent. I’m still trying to do that.

March Madness is in full force. Which team are you rooting for?
My Cal Bears are out, so I wish all the other teams luck. North Carolina is the team I’m picking to win it. There are so many college teams that are willing to step up and win that national championship, so it will be interesting.
